I saw pinstripers working during kustom meetings and wanted to try myself. So I did order basic kit and started training, using Steve Chaszeyka’s method: 10 thousand strokes. Then, I followed some workshops with confirmed artists: Herb Martinez, Pekka Wizz, Todd Hanson.
I love the Japanese vibe of this art. Mr. G, Makoto and Boo’s are very inspiring to me. But I love to see how diverse pinstriping can be. Styles are so unique from an artist to another! I love Hanson’s style for shifting from classic lines as much as I love traditional designs.
Favorite brush: Mack’s King 13 series for dagger style pinstriping. Mack Virus series for outlines/details.
Most memorable project: Very hard to tell. I had a blast painting a pinup girl and the name of a car on a Pontiac ‘51. But also adding flames on a ‘70 chopper. I’ll say the next project would be the most exciting!
Advice for beginners: I’ve been told to practice a lot and this is true, practice is key! But also have pleasure while painting. Find balance between that and discover other artists works to feed your imagination!
